I love testing cosmetics and skin care products and am always in search of a 'holy grail'; an item I simply can't and don't want to live without because it's a game changer in some way. Products so good it would be a challenge to even begin to decide which one to take with me on a desert island.
I've used a number of products lately that have very much impressed and inspired me to feature the things I personally feel you can believe the hype and the buzz about. I thought it might be fun to share the products that have not only instantly caught my attention, but also increased my love for them after several uses. There is so much to choose from and so many trends at any given time it can be difficult to keep up with what's new and truly noteworthy.
Is the product worthy of the hype and praise it's received? And more importantly, is it worth the money, especially when it's high end? Or is it just lots of slick marketing, sleek packaging, and a complete let down when you actually use it? We've all been there, right? I bet you're reading this post and thinking of all the moisturizers, foundations, lipsticks, and mascaras (to name just a few) you bought that were ultimately a disappointment and didn't make the cut. Hopefully, these types of posts will help steer you in the right direction.
So, on that note, one product I recommend that's making me super happy right now is the L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation ($16.99 .51 oz), which came out right after the new year and is one of the first foundations of its kind to be released in the drugstore market. I've been testing drugstore foundations for the last few months and decided to throw this cushion foundation in the mix as a fairly inexpensive introduction to the trend. I'm so glad I did as it's quickly becoming a go-to product for me for lots of reasons, which you'll see below, and if all cushion foundations are this easy to use and wearable, I'm sold on the hype in general.
Of course, cushion foundations aren't anything new, but rather another awesome K-beauty innovation that's been making its way stateside. Cushion foundations are just that... a cushion, or more like a small sponge, full of liquid foundation. The cushion itself is housed in a plastic compact with a mirror and includes a pad applicator similar to the round sponge applicators you'll find in any drugstore aisle, but this has a small strap on the back to tuck your fingers into. You take the applicator, press it down on the cushion to pick up the foundation, then tap or press into your skin to apply. It's that easy. And the applicator is flexible, so you can bend it to apply the foundation around your eyes, nose, and lips.
Cushion foundations are super portable and it's one of the additional benefits to using this kind of product. I took the True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation on a cabin getaway weekend trip earlier this month and it was perfect; instead of packing a liquid foundation and a brush or blending sponge, I only needed to bring this little package of goodness. And it withstood day drinking, hanging out around the campfire, and general lady shenanigans. I can guarantee I'll take a cushion foundation with me when I travel to Aruba this summer.
Should you believe the hype? Absolutely... I've used the L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation at least 3-5 times already, with both drugstore and high end primers, the Rimmel London Fix & Perfect Pro Primer ($7.99 1 fl oz) and the Marc Jacobs Beauty Under(cover) Coconut Perfecting Face Primer ($44.00 .75 oz) respectively, and have been impressed with the medium to full buildable coverage every single time; the end result is natural but polished. It has a very natural, lightweight feel and is perfect for someone who doesn't like a lot of fuss when it comes to foundation and doesn't want it to feel like they're wearing makeup. And it does a good job of standing up to a long day of wear, but because it's so lightweight, it's easy to apply a little extra when and where you need it.
The True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation is available in 12 shades and follows the L'Oreal True Match color system of cool, neutral, and warm shades. I'm using N2 Classic Ivory and although it's still a little on the warm side for me, I like it because it helps balance out the pink in my skin. One last note, although I've seen some cushion foundations that contain SPF, this foundation doesn't, so if you're going to wear it during the day, you'll want to make sure to protect your skin with a moisturizer or primer with SPF.
And there you have it... cushion foundations are awesome and this one is especially lovely. I hope you love it as much as I do. Happy cushioning!
Yours in beauty,
Lady Bon Vivant
