Happy October! A reader recently asked me to showcase my drugstore product recommendations for the entire face, from beginning to end, primer and foundation all the way to face setting sprays. Challenge ACCEPTED! I've always used drugstore products and have noticed over the years that most of them have come a long way in terms of quality and selection. Trends driven by high end makeup lines, such as Urban Decay or MAC, will often trickle down to the drugstore and because these alternatives are less expensive, it's easier to try that fuchsia-colored eyeshadow or blue lipstick without too much buyer's remorse if it doesn't work out.
I have lots of drugstore products I use on a regular basis (I'm especially partial to Maybelline and Revlon), but this will give me an opportunity to try out products from brands I don't necessarily gravitate toward while scouring the drugstore aisles. As you can see from the picture above, I've already started exploring... I've also been testing out affordable brands that are store-specific, like Sonia Kashuk and Pixi, from Target and will most likely add some of those to the list, too. And even though I don't necessarily care for most drugstore mascara I've tried and personally feel it's the one product you should splurge on, this will be a great opportunity to (hopefully) prove myself wrong.
Of course, no matter how much I love the drugstore, I can't resist the siren call of Sephora, MAC, and the 'prestige' aisles at Ulta, so I'll have some other fun goodies to review and write about over the next few weeks as well, especially with all the holiday palettes and collections being released. And I'm still mulling over what to be for Halloween this year (Snow Queen? 1920s Screen Siren? Joan Holloway from Mad Men?), but rest assured, some kind of fun makeup will be involved!
More to come on the drugstore challenge, beginning with primers, over the next few weeks and months. And if you have any suggested products you think I should include, I would love to hear from you!
Yours in beauty,
Lady Bon Vivant
